In the "Daydream-era" (1996) information regarding Mariah was very hard to find. There was an American fan club, but it's activities were rather limited and there was no information about Mariah on the Internet. This seemed when Mariah suddenly surprised our country with her 1996 Daydream tour. This was very sudden and many fans were disappointed because they could not get a concert ticket. It became clear then that something had to change.

In 1997 the Dutch Mariah Carey Association (DMCA) was founded to improve communications between the fans, to improve the information between the fans and the record company and to act as a spokesperson for the media.

The DMCA has grown into a very reliable fan club with around 350 members. While founding the DMCA some objectives were set. The founders wanted to provide a magazine which satisfies our members, we wanted to inform our members about the important news and events and the DMCA board shared a dream: to make it possible for all the members to actually meet Mariah.

The fanzine Carey On has proven to be very popular amongst the members and thanks to many DMCA Newsletters many members were able to meet Mariah on her visits to the Netherlands. We even managed to make our dream come true within the first year: The ultimate climax was Mariah's performance at the "Tros TV Show" on 11 May 1998. The DMCA managed to arrange an audience of just DMCA members, a private performance! For over 200 fans this was a dream come true.

Early in 2000 Mariah visited Europe on her Rainbow Tour. After 4 years of waiting Mariah was finally back in Europe. Regrettably she did not visit the Netherlands. This didn't stop the DMCA however to provide concert tickets for the Antwerp concert (14th February). For those who did not have any transport we even hired a DMCA coach to travel to Antwerp and back.

In September we organized our first Mariah Carey Fan Meeting. On 3 September 2000 many members had a great day entirely dedicated to Mariah. It was a day which will definitely be repeated.

In 1997 the DMCA started as a good initiative. Now, we are the oldest and most reliable fan club in Europe and we are officially recognized by Mariah, her management and Virgin. The DMCA has met Mariah on several occasions and Mariah has shown to be very pleased and impressed by the DMCA. Mariah has even cooperated to several editions of Carey On. Much has been achieved, and we are still busy setting new objectives. We are certain that the DMCA has grown to be a very important link in being a fan.
